There once was a girl
who wanted to fly
She wanted to soar
All through the skies
So she would jump
From branches up high
And fall down, down, down,
But she got back up
Every time
One day she went exploring
Over the hill and through the fields.
“What’s this?”
She wondered upon discovering a ruin
Curiosity triumphed and she moved closer
Old scrolls, she found
Lying in the rubble
She read
Furiously, anxiously
Wanting to unlock their secrets
Then she saw
The idea of her dreams.
Wings
She built the wings
Without a thought
Who’s scrolls were these?
And did it work?
Her sensibilities lost
Her curiosity prospered
The wings were finished
Her crowning glory.
She wore the wings,
Admired them with pride.
And decided
She would finally give them a try
She climbed on a rock
Looking over the ocean
The edge of a cliff
Never once deterred her
She ran and jumped
And soared and laughed
She was flying at long last
She went up and down an all around
Unaware of the doom that would soon come
She flew up, up, higher and higher
But minded the sun, as she had half a mind
She flew down to the waves
Felt the spray on her face
The wings grew heavy
She fell into the sea,
Not a boat insight
And she drowned
Clinging to her precious wings.
Inspired by the legend of Icarus.
